Before Your Visit

Arrive 15 minutes early to complete any paperwork. Wear comfortable clothing and be ready to describe your symptoms, when they started, and anything that makes them better or worse. If you have visited another doctor for the same concern, bring those records along.

  • Note down your symptoms, their duration and severity beforehand
  • List any known allergies and current medications, including supplements
  • Mention any family history of digestive or liver conditions
  • Prepare questions you'd like to ask during the consultation

Preparing for an Endoscopy

Fast (no food or liquids) for 6–8 hours before your procedure. Inform us about any blood-thinning medication in advance, as it may need to be paused. Since sedation is commonly used, please arrange for someone to drive you home afterward.

On the day

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing
  • Remove dentures, jewellery and contact lenses
  • Bring a companion to accompany you home

After the procedure

  • Rest for the remainder of the day; avoid driving
  • A mild sore throat is normal and settles quickly
  • Findings are discussed once sedation wears off

Preparing for a Colonoscopy

A bowel-cleansing preparation will be prescribed a day or two before your procedure, along with dietary changes such as a low-fibre or clear-liquid diet. Detailed, easy-to-follow instructions will be shared with you at the time of booking.

  • 2–3 days before: switch to a low-fibre diet as advised
  • The day before: clear liquids only, plus the prescribed bowel prep
  • Procedure day: nothing to eat or drink until after the procedure
  • Stay close to a washroom once the bowel prep begins

What to Bring

  • A valid photo ID
  • Previous test reports, scans or prescriptions
  • A list of current medications
  • Insurance card or details, if applicable
Patient consultation documents and preparation

Diet & Lifestyle Tips

Eat smaller, more frequent meals, stay well-hydrated, and limit fried, spicy or highly processed foods. Regular physical activity, adequate sleep and stress management all support long-term digestive and liver health — your care plan will include guidance specific to your condition.

Generally helpful

  • Fibre-rich fruits, vegetables and whole grains
  • Adequate water intake through the day
  • Regular meal timings and mindful eating

Best limited

  • Fried, oily and heavily spiced food
  • Alcohol, caffeine and carbonated drinks
  • Late, heavy meals close to bedtime
